We will inform you of the availability of the Okayama store in April. (As of March 3rd)
It seems like it was snowing just the other day, but it’s already March, isn’t it?
It’s still cold, but the warm days are gradually increasing and it’s becoming easier to go out.
By the way, March 3rd is Hinamatsuri, also known as Momo no Sekku.
Hinamatsuri is associated with peach blossoms, but did you know that peaches bloom from late March to early April?
Why is it called Momo no Sekku even though it is slightly different from the blooming period of peach blossoms?
That’s because the Momo no Sekku was originally set on March 3rd of the lunar calendar.
The lunar calendar was a “lunisolar calendar” based on the phases of the moon.
However, the new calendar we use now is a “solar calendar” based on the period when the Earth revolves around the sun.
In 1873, the solar calendar was adopted.
And December 3, 1872 on the lunar calendar became January 1, 1873 on the lunar calendar, and the season moved forward by one month in the lunar calendar.
As a result, there was a discrepancy in which peach blossoms did not bloom on the day of the Girls’ Festival.
In other words, peach blossoms would have bloomed around March 3 on the lunar calendar.
Peaches were also believed to have the power to ward off evil and to ward off evil.
It is said that the reason it is called the Girls’ Festival is because it was the time when peach blossoms bloom and because peaches were believed to have the power to ward off evil.
