トライバルタトゥー(Tribal tattoos)

トライバルタトゥーは、部族間で伝承されてきた伝統的な身体装飾のひとつです。

サモアのタトゥーは「タタウ」と呼ばれ、叩くという意味を持ちます。
これがタトゥーという言葉の由来になったと言われています。
男性のタトゥーはペアと呼ばれ、腰から膝まで広範囲に施す伝統的なタトゥーで、勇気や力、成熟を象徴します。
一方で、女性のタトゥーはマルと呼ばれ、太ももや膝の上部に施され、ペアよりは控えめなデザインです。
女性らしさや優雅さ、家族への敬意を表します。


最近では、伝統的なポリネシアンやマオリ、サモアなどのスタイルを取り入れながら、動物や植物、抽象的な模様を組み合わせた現代的なアレンジのタトゥーが多く見られます。
